Kidz Hour Local Schools

This delightful program provides a platform for students from local primary schools to talk on radio about their school activities, events and issues. The primary schools currently participating in the program is Frankston Heights, Kingsley Park, Mornington Park, Rosebud, Somerville Rise and Woodlands. The program helps children gain confidence and encourages them to have a view on certain topics which inturn empowers them. Children who participate in the project learn how to operate the panel, write their own radio programs which they broadcast ‘live to air’ and exposes them to a fully operational and functional community radio station. Since Kidz Hour went to air over 10 years ago (starting in the old Moorooduc studios), approximately 200 students a year participate in the program. Throughout the year, Principal Forums are put to air where Principals from each participating Primary School discuss school issues and education.
Michael, Assistant Principal at Woodlands PS since 1999, began producing Kidz Hour over 10 years and enjoys helping children produce their own program. It’s a lot of hard work but worth seeing children learn and achieve.
Tony is the Principal at Rosebud Primary and is also an integral part of the program helping and supporting children produce, practise and time their program before it goes to air. Tony was also a regular guest on the RPP FM Football Show panel some years ago.
