Getting to Know You
Show TimesTuesday - 9:00 am - 10:00 am
Over the past 10 years Gavin Williams, who spends a lot of time at his house in Flinders, realised people on the Peninsula are fascinated by other people’s lives who have positively shaped the world in some form or another.
So Gavin emailed RPP FM Station Manager, Brendon Telfer with an idea –
“It occurs to me that there would be real interest in a program focusing on people who live on the Mornington Peninsula and who have lead, or are still leading, interesting lives, have been influential or otherwise made a significant contribution in their particular field – education, business, diplomacy, cultural, politics etc. In many cases, while they may have been/still are influential at the same time there are some whose contribution may have been largely forgotten or inadequately recognised.
Mr Telfer agreed, and the concept of Getting to Know You was born.
The thrust of the program is to have a discussion – a chat – with people who have contributed in their area of expertise, – flesh out’ what sort of people they are – their background, their beliefs, what drives them – struggles and difficulties they faced and the impact of their lives on the wider local, Australian or international scene.
The line up of guests on Getting to Know You include, Dr Susan Alberti, Professor Frank Vajda, Garry Weaven, Frank Costa AO, Simon McKeon AO to name a few.
After graduating from the University of Western Australia, Gavin joined the Diplomatic Service in 1972 in the Department of Foreign Affairs and followed with two postings in South East Asia and Egypt, as well as secondments to the office of the Foreign Minister and the Office of National Assessments (ONA). He also served in other Commonwealth Government areas. He moved to Melbourne to begin work as CEO at the Packaging Council of Australia, an industry association, where I was employed until 2015.
Tune into RPP FM Tuesdays between 9-11am when Gavin provides an insight into inspiring, prominent people who have made a difference!
