While we all need to keep our physical distance from each other, Mornington Peninsula Shire is working hard to ensure our community remains socially connected, inspired and engaged with the world.
To protect our community during the Coronavirus pandemic, we have closed the doors of our library branches across the Peninsula. In response, our staff have created an abundance of online opportunities to read, watch, learn and have fun.
We’ve launched a new Social Hub on our library website, featuring a host of activities for those spending more time at home.
The Hub includes links to initiatives such as the Social Distance Festival, which publishes a calendar of free online concerts, plays, readings and live theatre performances from around the world.
For those working from home, the Social Hub has links to training and resources to help you move your business online and take it to the next level.
Social Hub also features wellness advice and ideas for keeping kids busy. Stay tuned as new content will be uploaded regularly.
Families looking for some school holiday fun might like to take part in two competitions recently launched by our library service. Activities include writing a letter to the Easter Bunny or composing a School Holiday Dog Story. Entries are open now.
And for our younger book lovers who might be missing their usual story time at the library, we’ve launched a twice weekly story time session livestreamed on Facebook. So tune in at 11am each Tuesday and Thursday for fun stories, songs and crafts.
For youngsters with a hankering for all things arty, Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery has created some fun online art and craft activities for kids, including new videos by artist-educator Jill Anderson.
And for adults looking for a new hobby or seeking to learn a new skill, our libraries have a huge range of free online courses.
Lynda is a premium online learning platform with thousands of hours of video training courses covering a huge range of business, computing/IT, and creative subjects.
Meanwhile, Creativebug has thousands of award-winning art & craft video classes taught by recognized design experts and artists.
Both services are available free of charge to our library members.
And, of course, we have an extensive range of online books, e-magazines, e-talking books and videos available free to our members.
Joining Our Library is free and easy. Simply complete an online form for a Web membership. You will be emailed a membership number and your pin number to use online.
For more information visit our library now. We are open for phone or online enquiries 9am-5pm weekdays and Saturday 9am-2pm. Or you can email us at Ask a Librarian.
