Council-supplied standard flu vaccines for children aged 6 months to 5yrs and pregnant women are not yet available. We anticipate that these will be available from mid-April.

For all standard flu vaccinations for all other age groups, please see your GP or local chemist.

Council strongly recommends residents continue to maintain all required immunisations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Council immunisation program

Council offers free vaccinations, available through the National Immunisation Program Schedule which is made up of the Childhood Immunisation schedule for:

  • Infants 0-5 years of age
  • Year 7 (Secondary School Immunisation Program)
  • Catch up vaccinations for clients age 0-19yrs of age
  • Whooping Cough vaccine for pregnant women from 20 weeks and their partners
  • Meningococcal vaccine for Year 10 students
  • Flu vaccines to children from 6mth up to 5yrs age

Please note: Flu vaccines in 2020 are free for all children aged from 6 months of age up until their 5th birthday (this vaccine is not available to children once they turn 5) – they may be given with their routine vaccines if this happens to be at the same time.

Remember: If you or your child has missed any of the required vaccinations, you can always head to a scheduled Council vaccination session to catch up.

When and where?

Session times are currently by APPOINTMENT ONLY. See above timetable and contact details to book.

  • Unable to be fully immunised for medical reasons

The ‘No Jab No Play’ law will apply to all early childhood education and care services in Australia providing:

Pregnant women and partners

Expectant parents and parents of newborns can now have a free whooping cough (Pertussis) vaccine booster from Council’s immunisation service.

Immunisation is the best way to reduce the risk of this highly contagious respiratory infection. It is particularly serious in young children and can be fatal in newborn babies.

Available to:

  • Pregnant women from 20 weeks gestation
  • Partners of pregnant women, who have not received a Pertussis booster in the past 10 years
  • Grandparents are not eligible for Council’s free program and can consult their GP to purchase this vaccine

Information for Parents/Guardians

  • There is no problem to give routine vaccinations to the child whose mother is pregnant. When vaccinating the child of a pregnant mother will reduce the risk of her being infected by her child with the more virulent wild virus strain if she was not immune.
  • Asthma, eczema and hay fever are not contraindications to any vaccine on the childhood schedule unless the child is receiving high-dose steroid treatment. All allergies of the child should be identified at the time of immunisation.
  • Children on antibiotics can be vaccinated, providing the child does not have a temperature greater than 38.5 on the day of immunisation.
  • Preterm babies can immunised. Routine vaccinations should be given 6 weeks after birth as per the National Immunisation Schedule.
  • Grandparents or carers are welcome to bring infants to any session; however they should bring a letter of authority from the parent/guardian with consent for the vaccines to be given on the day.
