Victoria’s sexiest suburbs, where residents are splashing the most cash to keep the spark alive in the bedroom, have been revealed.
Geelong postcodes East Geelong and Wandana Heights topped the list compiled by adults-only retailer SexyLand, with national marketing manager Rebecca Grech describing the regional city as “liberated, fun and open”.
“It’s very modern,” Ms Grech said.
Melbourne’s outer ring was home to the state’s next sauciest suburbs: Cranbourne North, Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, Narre Warren, Frankston, Wheelers Hill, Sunbury and Pakenham.
Werribee resident Belinda Mort credited having “a great love life” with helping keep her 18-year marriage “happy and alive”.
“There’s more to it, of course. But when you’re in the bedroom, it’s not just about getting your rocks off, it’s also about the exchange of trust and vulnerability that comes with it,” the 35-year-old said.
“Sex is important, and people should own their desires and follow their fantasies.
“It’s a little bit sad that it’s still such a taboo to talk about it — everybody should be able to be comfortable with it and not ashamed.”
SexyLand’s 2020 Bedroom Connections report also identified the most popular bedroom toys in the state’s sexiest suburbs.
Alligator nipple clamps were the top seller in East Geelong, riding crops in Wandana Heights, blindfolds in Frankston and rabbit vibrators in Sunbury.
Narre Warren residents typically favoured fluffy handcuffs, which were also the top toy across Victoria.
Other big statewide sellers were men’s desensitising “Indian God Lotion”, and the “A Year of Sex” card game displaying 50 Kama Sutra positions.
Meanwhile, Finder has analysed census data to identify the Melbourne suburbs most populated by singles — to help point those looking for a bedroom partner in the right direction.
The Melbourne CBD, Carlton, Clayton, North Melbourne and South Wharf had high numbers of both single men and women, with Carlton the most achievable for unattached househunters with a $385,000 median apartment price.
A resounding 60 per cent of women and 56 per cent of men living in the CBD ($460,000 median) were partnerless.
Single men were also found to be prominent in Braybrook, Burwood, Frankston North, Footscray and Seddon.
And women were flying solo in the big numbers in Carlton North, Brunswick East, South Yarra, Brunswick and West Melbourne.
“Inner-city suburbs tend to have the highest number of singles — these locations are packed with bars and restaurants,” Finder money expert Bessie Hassan said.
Finder also determined Melbourne overall had the biggest concentration of the nation’s seven million single adults.
