Family, friends and the local football world, paid their respects to Andrew Toepunt Kelly today as the local footy icon was remembered following his battle with cancer.
Toey died last week after brief illness.
Some 500 mourners gathered at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club for a light hearted and at times moving ceremony.
Toey’s brother Adam, son Lachy, work colleague Luke and footy mate Blackers – reflected on a life- dedicated to his loving family, work and football.
For 31 years Toey was an RPP FM stalwart who led the RPP footy broadcast team.
Station manager, Brendon Telfer paid tribute to the man, expressed his sympathy to his loving family and re-committed RPP to Toey’s vision.
“As Dame Tessa Jowell said in the House of Lords just days before she too died of cancer this weekend – what gives life meaning is not only how it is lived but how it draws to a close-
Toey exceeded those measures by a long shot – he is our true champion, his bravery and strength were phenomenal, and he leaves us with a legacy and a huge amount of work to deliver his passion and vision- and we will”
