The 201718 MPCA cricket season is all but over following the rain affected Grand Finals last weekend.
The Provincial Division game saw Langwarrin defeat Mt Eliza at Alexander Park in an intense arm wrestle on Saturday with neither side giving ground. Matt Prosser (50) and Travis Campbell (30) produced a match winning partnership of 68 set up a modest total of 8-180 of the allotted 80 overs. Justin Grant was the pick of the bowlers with 3/43. In the run chase, the ‘Mounties were soon in trouble slumping to 5-47. Only Josh Goudge offered any resistance with a classy 43. Trav Campbell earned the Wedgwood deal with 4-35 and Langwarrin won both the T20 Jack Peacock Cup and the prized Provincial trophy.
In Peninsula Division, Flinders earned promotion with a comprehensive win over Main Ridge. Early wickets led to a collapse as the ‘Ridge were all out for 76. The king of swing – Matt Burns collecting 4-32. Flinders gathered the required runs for the loss of 3 wickets and Blake Hogan -Keogh led the way with 30 an amazingly identical result as 1962, the last time these two met in a final.
Sub-district Carrum compiled 7-200 off there 80 overs with a great cameo of 48 not out to Dylan Steed. Dromana were on track for awhile with captain Jack Fowler scoring 69. But his dismissal sparked a collapse as Carrum skipper Jake D’atri claimed 5 wickets to end Dromana’s pursuit on 136.
The wash out at Skye on Saturday meant that District will continue their final next Saturday. Baden Powell scored 9-218 with Rhys Elmi on 57. Heather Hill are 1-24 in reply.
