Perfect weather greeted the runners carrying the 2018 Commonwealth Games Queens Baton. Locals were out in force to cheer on their local heroes, enjoying the atmosphere as the Queens Baton Relay raced through the streets of Sorrento.
In a first for the local community radio station – RPPFM live streamed the event keeping pace with the runners!
Locals enjoyed a free BBQ, band and special guests with thanks to the Mornington Peninsula Shire as they welcomed Baton bearers to the marvellous Mornington Peninsula. These outstanding local community members proudly carried the baton for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games: Bianca Appleford, Rosie Batty, Jodie Carroll, Terence Ernest Cox, John Ellis, Wendy Grant, Colleen Mackay, Catherine Montalto, Donna Nettlefold, Pam Rowler and Kaye Thomas.

Around 3,800 baton bearers will carry the dream of the “friendly Games” travelling for 100 days across Australia before it reaches its destination on the Gold Coast for the Opening Ceremony on 4 April. Baton bearers are people of all ages and abilities who inspire others to be great, showcasing their sporting or community achievements and contributions.
