It all started when Dr Peter Wright saw a movie in 1957 based on a Jazz legend titled ‘The Benny Goodman Story’. Steve Allen played Benny Goodman and his band played all the jazz music. “I was very taken with the strong swing of the band and the beautiful sound of the BG clarinet,” says converted Jazz lover, Peter.

He started going to jazz dances, concerts and buying jazz records. “I now have an extensive collection and still enjoy it all,” says Peter.

Peter became a jazz presenter on the local radio station over 20 years ago quite by accident by current Jazz program presenter and President of RPP FM, Graeme Kniese. “But that’s another story,” Peter claims.

Retired as a Monash Uni maths/stats lecturer, he currently tutors at Frankston U3A and takes introductory jazz classes weekly.

He loves playing bowls and strolling along the Frankston boardwalk and is blessed with a fine family, but sadly no ‘jazzos’ as yet!

Although Peter has a soft spot for music of the 50s, it’s bye-bye to Bill Haley, Elvis and the 50’s pop scene and hello to –
