gt-121-exhibition-st“lt has been nearly 9 years since l did my last ‘on air’ shift at RPP FM local radio and I’ve watched the station grow under Brendon Telfer, a person l have admired for his contribution to sports media in the Pacific region,” says Gary Turner smiling.

“The new studios, equipment and valuable volunteers have contributed to the success of the station and it is exciting to be part of the team.”

Gary is the new presenter for the 6-9am Wednesday breakfast program, taking the reins from popular long standing presenter Joe Labriola, (known as Joe Labs around the RPP FM corridors). Joe held the Wednesday breakfast slot for some years.

Gary will feature pop hits of the 60s, 70s & 80s with many one hit wonders not heard on radio. He will keep everyone update with local news, weather and local community events plus many prizes to be won.

He will also present a Saturday breakfast program, 6am-9am starting Saturday, 17 September and will include some rock hits that made the 70s & 80s and all the latest entertainment news.

Gary is a Mornington Peninsula based, Radio Journalist/Media Adviser with more than 30 years’ experience in print and electronic media, corporate affairs and media liaison. He is no stranger to the world of entertainment, interviewing and rubbing shoulders with the most influential music and theatre performers in the world. Artists such as Clint Eastwood, Lee Kernaghan, Dudley Moore, Slim Dusty, Peter Falk, Kylie Minogue, John Travolta, Sir Peter Ustinov, Hank B Marvin, Engelbert Humperdinck, Joe Cocker, Barry Crocker, Elton John, Kiss, Barry Humphries, INXS, Joan Collins, Suzi Quatro – the list goes on.

He has extensive experience in broadcasting as an announcer, station manager, music programmer, news reading and promotions.

gary-turnerGary spent his early years as a Media Spokesman for the Victorian Government working with Minister Peter Spyker, Minister Tom Roper and Premier Joan Kirner before moving to the Central Pacific to work as the Director of Media for the Republic of Nauru and the Federated States of Micronesia.

He worked closely with Lee Kernaghan and was the MC for the ‘Spirit of the Bush’ concerts in Queensland raising money for the drought affected farmers of Queensland. He has rubbed shoulders with the likes of Normie Rowe, Adam Harvey, Ross Wilson, Jimmy Barnes and Adam Brand.

He’s worked for commercial radio stations all over Australia, hosted many Country Music events in Australia and Norfolk Island and presented shows on P&O Fairstar and other sailing vessels.

As an actor Gary appeared in the TV series Cop Shop, Skyways, Holiday Island and various TV commercials.

He has a passion for AFL Football and retired from umpiring after more than 313 games. He enjoys travel, trail bike riding, theatre, music, broadcasting, toastmasters, politics and world affairs and is a member of the Mornington Race Club and Canadian Bay Club.

So tune in to your local radio, RPP FM each Wednesday, 6-9am to get you started in the morning. And don’t forget to listen early Saturdays for breakfast with Gary too.
