Young music students from Rosebud Primary School performed and recorded a ‘live to air’ concert in RPP FM’s recording Studio 3 recently to mark the end of the year for the Kidz Hour radio program.

Boys and girls from Grades 3 to 6 tuned their instruments and memorized words in readiness for the Kidz Hour Christmas special.

The group of music students cheerfully played and sang Christmas Carol favourites including Jingle Bells, Rudolf The Red Nosed Reindeer and We Wish You A Merry Christmas.

There was a lot of talent in recording Studio 3 with as many as nine different musical instruments played by enthusiastic students including the trombone, clarinet, flute, saxophone, guitar, violin, ukulele, piano and bongo drums.

The concert band, made up of 24 young music students played as a group. Solos and duets were also performed.

Malcolm Boag, the resident music teacher at Rosebud Primary who has taught at the school all his working life and is now retiring, had this to say, “It’s been a wonderful opportunity for kids of Rosebud Primary School to showcase their musical talents. I’ll miss watching our young musicians grow up on their musical journey.”

Little 12 year old Madison (pictured above) who was a finalist in 2015 The Voice of Frankston, a contestant in this year’s Rosebud BuskFest and one of the Music School Captains said, “Mr Boag has taught me so many things because he has introduced me to many different instruments. He is awesome!”

RPP FM local radio has been broadcasting Kidz Hour for many years on the 98.7FM & 98.3FM airways and is supported by six primary schools across the Peninsula. It’s a great opportunity for young students to talk about their school projects and encourage them to have a voice.

Thank you to all concerned who have worked hard in 2015 to bring another fabulous year of Kidz Hour. We look forward to the program again in 2016 which will be aired every Monday 11.15am – 12noon.
