Popular Jazz presenter Don Smith sits behind the mic at the RPP FM studios and hosts the Night Train Jazz program every Wednesday at 10pm on 98.7FM.
This week Don was delighted to be given the opportunity to introduce Jazz Piano in Bernies Music Land Hour program as a guest presenter on Wednesday, 3 June at 3pm.
It was Don’s opportunity to show off his wide repertoire of Jazz Piano tracks which excited his listening audience.
The collaboration between Don and Bernies Music Land Hour is well timed as Mornington celebrates it’s Winter Jazz Festival in the upcoming Queen’s Birthday long weekend where RPP FM is a media partner of the festival.
RPP FM is very grateful to Bernie from Bernies Music Land for the extended loan of a Baby Grand piano that sits proudly in the BlueScope Performance Studio at the radio station.
The Baby Grand is used for concerts and recitals in the Performance Studio that attracts internationally acclaimed pianists and performers.
Don is a likeable character born in the UK and worked as an analytical chemist then moved onto a Government Environmental Research Station before locating to Australia in the mid 1960s.
With a love of jazz music as young 18 year old, he managed a jazz club and several bands and now loves presenting his jazz program ‘Night Train’ on RPP FM every Wednesday.
Don has travelled the world which includes the USA, Japan, Scandinavia and most of Europe, both East and West to hear his favourite music.
Returning to Melbourne in the late 1990s after several years in Sydney, Don settled on the Mornington Peninsula and soon discovered RPP FM and it’s high profile jazz offering – the rest is history!
“Night Train” – ‘a swingin’ affair’ and all of that Jazz!
If you enjoy all Jazz genres, check out the program details on the RPP FM website and stay tuned to RPP FM 98.7FM & 98.3FM Frankston or live stream from the rppfm.com.au website. You can also download the RPP FM APP.
