In RPP FM Match of the Day, brought to you by Mornington & Rosebud Telstra Stores, Andrew “Toe Punt” Kelly returned to the commentary box with his team to call the action between Somerville and Sorrento.
Sorrento entered the match keen to atone for their previous weeks loss to Red Hill, whilst Somerville entered the match anxious to find some consistent form after a yo-yo start to the season.
Somerville started the match with a high intensity output, throwing their bodies into the contest, and out muscling their Sorrento counterparts. The Eagles rode this wave of intensity to a well earned 26 point lead at Quarter Time on the Rye Hotel Scoreboard.
Sparked by a stern Q/T address coach Troy Schwarze, Sorrento upped their work rate in the 2nd term, to draw level at half time.
The second half was an exhibition in tight, rugged, contested football. Neither side willing to give an inch in a hard fought encounter.
However Somerville were able to kick 2 decisive goals late in the last quarter to win by 13 points.
Best Players for Somerville were Speedy, McKenzie and Farrely. While Grant, Campbell and Poholke battled valiantly for Sorrento.
RPP FM Best on Ground was awarded to Eagles player Tim Mcguinness with beaming Toe Punt.
