Young local, Abbie O’Brien has a long list of talents but one that we are all most proud of is the champion rider claiming her second national title at the Australian Young Rider Dressage Championships in Werribee last week.
Along with her beautiful horse Rajah’s Rave, Abbie’s persistence and determination has successfully put her within a ‘stones thow’ of competing in the 2020 Olympics saying, “The dream and the goal is to get to the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020 as my horse is still quite young and wouldn't be ready for Rio next year.”
After winning three years ago at the same event, Abbie won the prestigious FEI Prix St Georges and FEI Young Rider Freestyle classes at Werribee to be named overall national champion.
The result now gives Abbie entry into the open age national championships in October, providing the ideal opportunity to test herself against some of the best riders and horses in the country.
Abbie also appears as a regular guest with presenter Neil Williams on RPP FM’s The Locker Room sports program and cooks at The Flinders Golf Club. House Manager of The Flinders Golf Club, John Groenendijk knows how passionate Abbie is and wishes her well in reaching her goals.
