RPP FM were there for the launch of the Conservation Volunteers Australia accredited program back in October 2014 and now celebrated the graduation of young local students who are part of the Mornington Peninsula Green Army team.
Minister for the Environment The Hon. Greg Hunt awarded the youth at Chinamans Creek on the Rosebud West foreshore this week saying, “It was terrific to meet the first graduating Green Army team from the Mornington Peninsula and to hear about their experiences in the field.”
“This team of young people has done fantastic work across seven sites on the peninsula and many participants have already lined up jobs in the environmental sector. This is a fantastic result and I look forward to many more young people taking an interest in environment protection and gaining valuable training in the field,” Minister Hunt added.
Participant Kim Volk who enjoyed the experience is already using her skills developing school education programs and has secured ongoing projects with CVA.
Service provider Conservation Volunteers Australia is now looking to recruit the next round of Green Army team members who are enthusiastic young people who want to gain valuable skills, training and experience in environmental and heritage conservation fields.
The Restoring Bushland on the Mornington Peninsula project will improve the condition of indigenous vegetation and restore habitats for native species. This will build on the good work that has already been done by the Mornington Peninsula Green Army team.
Participants will obtain nationally endorsed certifications and skills in preparation for the workforce and career opportunities and must be aged between 17 and 24 years and an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
“I encourage local young people interested in the environment to apply to be part of the project,” Minister Hunt said.
Any young people interested in joining the Green Army can apply through Conservation Volunteers Australia. Visit http://www.environment.gov.au/land/green-army for more information.
