3 day OB extravaganza at festival

Warm weather brought out locals to enjoy the annual Western Port Festival now in it’s 46th year and RPP FM covered the three day event on the 98.7FM airways.

The Western Port Street Parade delighted crowds as many participants paraded to commemorate the ANZAC Centenary with patriotic Australians waving flags proudly.

Mark Mayle, RPP FM presenter of Sunday Sessions, Dennis Gist, presenter of Wednesday Drive and Lyna Sabell, presenter of Sleepless on the Peninsula broadcast the parade as it passed the RPP FM Outside Broadcast Van.

Vital Mornington Peninsula services including the SES, CFA Units and Police joined in the colourful, noisy parade with local schools, junior sports clubs, community groups and the Navy Band following on.

The RPP FM Main Stage was full of excitement with Cr David Garnock announcing the Best Parade Displays in 5 categories starting with:

Most Creative Display – PENINSULA BALLET ONSOMBEL
• Best Display from Juniors (12yrs and under) – ST MARY’S CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL
• Best Display from a local business – HASTINGS MOWERS
• Best Sporting & Recreation Display – WESTERN PORT BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION
• Best Display from a Volunteer Group – MISS WESTERN PORT FINALISTS

Mayor Cr Bev Colomb welcomed the audience from the RPP FM Main Stage and Dennis Gist was given the honourary role of announcing the winner of the Miss Western Port Pageant 2015 won by19 year old Mikaela Fowler.

Other contenders in the pageant were
Fourth Runner Up – Stephanie Long
Third Runner Up – Alicia Jackson
Second Runner Up – Stephanie McRoe
First Runner Up – Lily Warren

Other event highlights included the Fireworks Display, Art & Craft Show, Model Aircraft Airshow, 100 years of ANZAC displays, Free Outdoor Cinema and Carnival Rides.

Station Manager said, “It was a huge three day broadcast extravaganza with RPP FM presenters and producers happy to extend a helping hand to be part of the successful event.”
