On the 11th of the 11th at 11am – we will remember!
In the lead up to Remembrance Day on 11 November, RSL Appeals is urging all Victorians to ‘Remember This November’ and buy a poppy.
Thousands of Poppy Appeal volunteers across Victoria will be selling the much loved, iconic red poppy to raise funds for current and former servicemen and women in need.
The history of the poppy is profound and heartfelt. Poppies were first planted to bloom in the devastated battlefields of France and Belgium and since 1921, they have been used to remember for those who fell during times of war by many countries around the world.
According to RSL Appeals Manager, Peter Smith, buying a poppy not only helps raise vital funds for the welfare of veterans and their families, but it is also a symbol of comradeship and respect.
“For this Poppy Appeal, buy your poppy early, so you can wear it every day with honour until Remembrance Day” adds Mr Smith.
Support provided to veterans in need varies dramatically and is tailored to each and every case. This can range from assistance with household bills to medical expenses, the provision of mobility aids, funeral expenses, home maintenance and food vouchers.
Victorians can purchase a poppy from their local RSL Sub-Branch and from volunteer collectors in their local community. Poppies are also available from Woolworths and Officeworks stores from late October. Alternatively, make a donation online at http://www.poppyappeal.com.au/
Purchasing and wearing a poppy will show your support and pride, remembering our soldiers who fought for our freedom.
