RPP FM once again was proud to broadcast live from the annual Main Street Mornington Festival on Sunday.
The festival attracted a crowd of more than 50,000 locals and tourists, all eager to see what the event had to offer in its 19th year. RPP FM’s new broadcast van was parked next to the Grand Hotel main stage where Gossamer Pride, Facades, Trudy & the Saturday Cowboys, Joel Reed & Them Blues Cats, The Distance and headliner Michael Paynter performed.
Paynter grew up in Frankston and signed with Sony Music when he was 19. He supported Seal, Miley Cyrus, The Script and John Farnham and in 2013, was finalist on TV show ‘The Voice’. All artists in the jam packed festival program put on fantastic shows, but it was singer songwriter Michael Paynter who drew in the crowds.
“We’re lucky to have Michael Paynter here in Mornington…He’s quite good looking,” said RPP FM presenter, Heather Mc.
“I feel a little bit like a groupie. I mean, some of these bands are absolutely incredible,” said Sugar and Spice’s Judy Banks-Phillips.
There was also entertainment for kids young and old including circus workshops, children’s performers and dance crew performances. Even Iron Man made an appearance.
Other highlights were the array of local gourmet food with tastes from Italy, Spain, Vietnam, Japan and Denmark. And to drink there were samples from some of the Mornington Peninsula’s award-winning wineries.
The Main Street Mornington Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary next year and RPP FM Manager Brendon Telfer says he hopes the station will be able to again broadcast live from the increasingly popular event.
