Full Court Press, the Peninsula’s No. 1 basketball radio program went ‘live to air’ courtside Friday night at the Frankston Basketball Stadium in Seaford to celebrate the new sponsored partnership with the Frankston & District Basketball Association (FDBA).
Darren Smith, Full Court Press (FCP) presenter and his expert basketball panelists Darren Mahony-Walsh, founder and Director of Bobcats Basketball Club (also a FCP and station sponsor) and Manny Hendrix Jr, US basketball import and Western Port Steelers player covered regular weekly segments, basketball updates and interviews with VIP’s of the game.
The night was big held at the Frankston Basketball Stadium, home of the FDBA and Frankston Blues as the Men & Women’s home teams played off against Knox Raiders. The atmosphere was energised and heightened by the great facilities of the stadium which is envied by basketball clubs, players and enthusiasts alike.
Smith and the boys interviewed several power brokers of the game. First off the run sheet was FDBA CEO, Nathan Jolly and former SEABL player. Jolly welcomed FCP crew to the Frankston Blues stadium praising the radio program for giving a voice to basketball on the Peninsula and supporting the sport. He said, “The FDBA offers outstanding coaching services, producing talented players especially at grassroots level.” Basketball in the Frankston District, namely Frankston Blues Junior teams is playing a big part growing the game adding, “The increased popularity of local basketball has put enormous pressure on facilities and with the help and support of local councils and government we are able to meet the demand.”
While Manny went off signing autographs, SEABL player Chuck Long spoke about his love for the game and joined in the weekly Basketball Quiz, focused on ‘NBA Career Record Holders’. He answered all questions correctly – no surprises there!
Simon Giovannoni – SEABL Head Coach came to the microphone adding that great things are happening in local basketball and is growing rapidly.
The Hero’s & Villains segment, highlighting good and bad behaviour of basketball players worldwide was entertaining. The FCP also updated listeners on the basketball scene including NBA news.
Finishing the hourly program, Darren Mahony-Walsh provided updates from the Bobcats Basketball Club.
Special mention was extended to Brad Fitzsimmons from Bayside Automotive Group who attended the outside broadcast.
Darren Smith and his team wrapped up FCP courtside congratulating Nathan Jolly and his team putting on this spectacle, ready to hand back broadcasting to RPP FM studios for Neil Williams and his panel for bring their audience The Ball Show.
