Fondly known as the ‘family friendly’ Hotel, The Dava in Mt Martha has travelled through time dating back to the 1920s with a rich history that helped shape the area. Times have changed and Debra Mar went down to explore this impressive modern Hotel that has just come onboard as a proud sponsor of RPP FM and The Breakfast Scoop radio program.

Not many local bistros and bars boast sweeping water views across Port Philip Bay, a deck big enough to host family gatherings to celebrate milestones, where friends meet for a great night out and party groups dance and listen to live music. The Dava Hotel on The Esplanade offers this and more.

The original site and building of The Dava Hotel was home to The Sisters of Charity, used as a boarding school for  Padua Preparatory School for Boys in the 1920’s, then circa 1935 the Order sold it to John Ross who redeveloped the buildings as The Dava Lodge Hotel & Guest House. It included a 9 hole golf course and attracted casinoplay personalities and celebrities to it’s doorstep. Today, The Dava has come of age offering an authentic family atmosphere with good, honest food and service catering for all occasions and ages.

The entrance hall has a sense of familiarity and comfort which extends throughout the Hotel. The Bistro, with it’s spacious seating arrangement offers delicious food of modern Australian cuisine with delightful desserts. A special menu for Seniors and Children is available for lunch and dinner, 7 days a week. The outdoor space on the lower deck is to be enjoyed on a balmy summers night with a refreshing glass of wine or a cup of coffee and cake during the day for a tête-à-tête with a friend.

The indoor/outdoor children’s playground will entertain your little ones providing a popular venue for children’s parties.

Wander up the winding staircase to The Dava Deck Bar where the view opens up to capture our magnificent bay. It’s the best place to take in sunsets, watch ships go by while relaxing with live music and entertainment and a cocktail or two!

The coziness of a large open fire place, a historical Coat of Arms plaque and shining grand piano in The Club Bar lends itself to a versatility space form a cocktail style events or just sit and chat in comfortable chairs in the colder months.
