This week Jacki Mitchell, presenter of Taking Care of Business invited well-acclaimed and influential national and international Interior Designer, Kym Lackmann of Luxe Domain Melbourne, Jamie Allpress of Allpress Antiques and current judge on TV show The Block, Darren Palmer of Darren Palmer Interiors to discuss the business of Interior Design.

Kym and Jamie talked their business partnership and the passion they have helping people move forward with their home interiors after downsizing into apartments and the concept of antique furniture working in contemporary styled environments.

Both Kym and Jamie have a process in place advising their clients what to keep, what to sell, how old and options available how to de-thin (de-clutter).
Jamie, who started in the antique business aged 11 years, indulges himself in the whole experience of the hunt, the sale and placing 16th – 18th century English country furniture pieces in clients homes.

Kym explained homemakers want to explore their own design injecting colour, beautiful textured fabrics to create moodiness in a room with our guidance. “Clash colours, mix polka dots and stripes, but be aware of clutter and the extreme of minimalist, you want to create interest, not strip away character,” she said.

Darren stated we have exposure to the leading interior designs from cities such as London, Paris and Milan from the internet which help form our own point-of-difference and individualism.

Margaret Harrison, Sales and Marketing Director of Business Times magazine popped in the studio to let listeners know the April edition has now hit the shelves at your nearest newsagency with interesting articles and stories.

Want to know more interior tips and tricks of the trade you can try at home? Want to know what ‘furniture proofing’ and ‘upwards projecting’ is and why Darren doesn’t believe in trends? Want to know the key influences of design and the do and don’ts of interior design?
