The Man behind the voice, behind the microphone, behind the RPP FM’s Wednesday Drive Time program is host Dennis Gist who interviewed local artist Jenny Riddle this week.

Jenny, who began her artisté journey at the age of 4 with ‘oils’ remembers her Mum, herself a painter saying, “Be creative, and never be afraid to make a mess.” Jenny has carried that thought throughout her life.

At 20, she found a career in Visual Merchandising which allowed her to feed her creative spirit. When her sister Andrea was sick she discussed returning to her real love of painting and after she sadly passed, Jenny followed her passion with her paintbrushes and acrylics.

Jenny said, “I studied under artist Howard Arkley who told me that each mark on my canvas should be made with passion.” She added, “There is a real need and desire for me to connect with nature which is inspiring and peaceful – I love how morning light falls on landscapes.”

She moved to Red Hill and there she further developed her artistic side focusing on painting.

Jenny is a well-acclaimed artist among her peers. She won Best Seasidescape at the 2008 Flinders Art Show and her work is likened to 19th Century landscape paintings.

Sunday drives with her family as a child looking at landscapes outside the car window is where a lot of her inspiration still comes from. “Children today hardly look out of car windows, they are too busy playing games on their computers or watching movies,” she said.

You can see her passion in every brush stroke at her solo exhibition simply titled ‘Sundays’ evoked from Sunday drives which has a special meaning to her.

The exhibitions opens this Saturday, 8 March between 2pm – 5pm. All works are for sale.
