Saturday saw the conclusion of the MPCA cricket season with all three major matches played out to the last hour.
In Provincial, Mornington hung on to a record, making their 9th Premiership with a narrow victory over Sorrento. Trailing by two runs on the first inning, Sorrento launched an attack in the second innings to set Mornington 156 run target.
Wickets tumbled, but at stumps Mornington survived being 8 -120. Mornington’s star was Anthony Gapes who was undefeated in both innings, scoring a total of 102 for the game.
In District, Pines outplayed Delacombe Park to lead by 91 runs on their first innings. Delacombe Park bounced back in the second innings to make 246 and set Pines 156 as an outright target.
Pines Assistant Coach, Jake Prosser took up to the task scoring 75 not out in a match winning effort as Pines secured a win with three overs to spare.
In sub-District, Red Hill’s Simon Dart (former Victorian player) scored his third century in a row to guide the ‘Hillmen’ to 277. This proved too much for Rosebud who were all out for a very creditable 221. Top scorer was ex- Australian Country Team Captain, Brad Glenn with 72.
The three games provided an exciting conclusion to the Bendigo Bank cricket season.
