Samuel Johnson is really home sharing his amazing achievement of unicycling around Australia to raise awareness for breast cancer, inspired by his sister Connie. He and Connie celebrated at Mornington Racecourse on Saturday night with local people he grew up with. Debra Mar recorded an interview with Samuel,  played on the RPP FM Breakfast Show recently.

The Love your Sister campaign inspired by Samuel’s sister Connie 37, who is terminally ill with breast cancer was greeted by hundreds of supporters at the Mornington Racecourse on the weekend.

Samuel set his own challenge to raise $1 millon for the cause but exceeded the total by raising over $1.3 million.

Samuel said, “It was the ‘little person’ on the street who gave most of the money in small coin donations and I went to the bank and banked it myself.” He couldn’t believe the generosity of people who opened their hearts and hopes that big corporate businesses will match the total funds raised.

Bendigo Community Bank branches on the Peninsula have been behind Samuel and the Love your Sister campaign hosting fundraising nights and dinners and rattling tins.

Samuel set a new Guinness World Record for covering the most distance on a unicycle totalling an exhausting 15,995 kms around Australia to spread the word about breast cancer.

To add light heartedness to the Welcome Home Samuel event, The Jacobs-Lowe 'Love your Sister ' Cup was run. Samuel was mounted on a Shetland Pony deservingly named ‘Connie’s Dream’ with a mélange of horse breeds in the 5-horse line up ready for a 200 metre dash. Samuel crossed the winning post last but we all know he is a winner and champion.

The aim is to make the Love Your Sister Cup an annual event at the Mornington Racecourse keeping the cause alive in honour of Connie.

Thank you to Susan Clavin of Jacobs-Lowe, the Love your Sister Event Co-ordinator for putting together a wonderful evening and to the Australian people for their support.

Sam completed his unicycle ride on 13 February 2014 at Federation Square, a year ago to the date and was greeted by an awestruck crowd and media to congratulate him.

You can still make donations for the Love your Sister campaign through your local Bendigo Community Bank or go to website loveyoursister.org where you can purchase Love your Sister merchandise.

Debra Mar, presenter of the RPP FM Breakfast Show played the interview she recorded with Samuel. The heartfelt interview covered Samuel and Connie’s journey, spreading breast cancer awareness.
