Unlike any dining experience on the Mornington Peninsula, the Pig & Whistle Tavern in Main Ridge should be on food lovers ‘to visit’ list.

This relaxed and peaceful family Tavern is surrounded by bay views and countryside vistas, offering a choice of alfresco or in-house dining. The beer garden, set among tall shady trees is ‘decked out’ with new furniture and outdoor bar which provides a real ‘outdoorsy’ feel.

The selection of quality food and drink will satisfy all matter of taste.  After trying entrees and tasting boards, explore the ‘House Made Pot Pies and Classics’ menu, listing comfort food for lovers of traditional ‘pub grub’ such as Beef & Guinness Pie and Bangers and Mash. There is a menu for piglets (an endearing term for children) or choose from Seaford dishes which include fish n’ chips and salt & pepper calamari.  From the Grill, juicy steaks including Wagyu beef will ‘whet’ the meat connoisseur’s appetite, and lastly the Dessert menu introduces local cheeses and produce.

The Pig & Whistle shares it’s space with the Bayview Estate Winery & Vineyard, believed to be one of the oldest on the Peninsula and offers it’s own selection of red, white and sparkling wines served in the Tavern. The bar is stocked with on-tap local and imported beers and ciders, including their special Big Pig Amber Ale and Big Pig Apple Cider.

The Bayview Vineyard will open it’s cellar door for sales in December 2013 offering wine tastings, tapas and top wines from other Peninsula wines including boutique Peninsula beers.

Owners Robert & Analou Lawson have owned the Pig & Whistle Tavern since May this year and have fallen in love with the tranquility of the place. Rob who operated a successful commercial aquatic business in the USA for 25 years and represented in Dubai and Southern China is a long way from the hustle and bustle of living in the fast lane. He said, “The native bird and wild life such as parrots and kangaroos make you feel part of nature providing a warm and reassuring feeling and a sense of belonging.”

The Pig & Whistle Tavern has an English ‘heir’ about it with porcelain tankards swinging from rafters, hanging English themed sporting paraphernalia juxtaposed with ornamental pigs and flying ducks. This Tavern is so authentic you expect aristocrats to appear after a fox hunt.

Amazing million dollar bay views, and beyond are visual from the beer garden and the grassed area which is enclosed with flowers, roses and trees to form a natural flora amphitheatre where concerts are performed. The view from the Bayview Estate Winery mirrors that of the ‘old country’ with green rolling hills that merge beautiful with neatly rowed vines.
