Fans found it hard to contain their emotions at the 2013 Casey Cardinia Football League Grand Final at Pakenham Recreation Reserve on Saturday when Narre Warren Magpies stole victory from Cranbourne Eagles by 1 point in the RPP FM Match of the Day, sponsored by Jim’s Test & Tag.

The Full Time score on the Moonah Links Resort scoreboard told the story – Narre Warren 14. 16. (100) to Cranbourne 15. 9. (99).

At half time the score resembled a one sided game with the favourites Narre Warren leading by 22 points.

Heading into the third quarter, the Eagles were determined to lessen the deficit and dominated the quarter kicking 3 goals to Magpies 1 goal, changing the leader by 2 points for the first time in the match at the 19 minute mark. Then the scoring continued goal for goal.

At the beginning of the final term Cranbourne trailed by 2 goals. At the 16 minute mark the scores were level, and 3 minutes later Cranbourne hit the front again.

The battle of the full forwards kept play tight. At the final siren Narre Warren, kicked a goal to win by 1 point in the last seconds of the match.

The commentatory boys, Vossy, and special guests Tangles and Shane Scanlon were engrossed in the moment from the ‘radio box’ with a packet of throat lozenges needed by the end of the match.
Steve Watson, 32 was given a special mention, putting in a gutsy game whilst carrying a back injury and Stuart Scanlon (Shane’s son) broke his arm in an on-field clash.

RPP FM Best on Ground, courtesy of Moonah Links Resort was awarded to Magpies player Karem Baskaya for a consistent game to help his team bring home the 2013 Premiership Flag.
