Mr Dennis Gist, presenter of Wednesday Drive Time on RPP FM was besotted with two Miss World Australia entrants he interviewed on his program recently.

Local girls Jessica Martini and Katherine Martin are both proud finalists in the 2013 Miss World Australia pageant. The crowning will take place at the end of July 2013 and the winner will represent Australia on the world stage.

Miss World Australia identifies young Australian women who exemplify beauty, talent, intelligence and compassion and Jessica and Katherine certainly fit the criteria.

With a busy schedule of organising charity functions, community events and media commitments such as interviews on radio, Jessica and Katherine are enjoying the journey.

At 25 years of age, Jessica understands the importance of staying true to yourself and said, “My dream and ambition is to start up a camp for teen girls that teaches them how to be confident and to love yourself.” She knows there is a lot of bullying especially on social media pages and wants to help young girls with self-image and self-worth. “A pretty face doesn’t mean a pretty heart,” she said.

Jessica is also kept busy with her own online runway fashion & accessories business and was the Beehive Marquee Ambassador at the Centrebet Mornington Cup this year.

Katherine, who is 20 years old, has a love of horses and successfully competed in Dressage for many years. She helps with track work at Mornington Race Club and is a volunteer at Mornington Veterinary Clinic. She wishes to study horse Veterinary Science. She said “If I won the pageant it would be an opportunity for me to be a good role model for young girls.”

Jessica is holding a charity night called Step Out in Style, Friday 21 June at 7.30pm at the Canadian Bay Hotel, Mt Eliza. A $25 donation is required upon entry. You can book your ticket by phoning Jessica on 0411 123 808 or email jessica.martini@hotmail.com. It will be a fun night with raffles, auctions, wine and give-aways.

The Mt Eliza Farmers Market is supporting Katherine by suppling a gourmet hamper bursting with fine products. The hamper is on display at Little Grasshoppers Child Care Centre, Main Street Mornington. Tickets are $3 each and drawn on 15 June. For more details contact Katherine on km.katherinemartin@hotmail.com or mobile 0430 554 307.

All proceeds from funds raised by Jessica and Katherine go to Miss World Australia’s current program with the Lilla Community in the NT to help fulfil their Community Wish List.

RPP FM and the local community wish Jessica and Katherine all the very best. They make excellent ambassadors for the Peninsula.

Listen to Drive Time every Wednesday at 4pm and let Dennis and his Producer and co-host Ellen Bruin sit in the passengers seat to get you home with fun and timeless tunes thrown in.
