RPP FM Studio 1 was bouncing with excitement when presenters of The Breakfast Scoop Pete Smedley and Brittany Fry interviewed upcoming ‘stars on film’ Stephany Avila and Lauren Murtagh last Thursday.
The energetic young actors, who are currently starring in a new Australian teen TV drama series called Clique, controversially narrates life through the eyes of young adults who battle with substance abuse, mental illness, sexuality, dysfunctional relationships, crime and death. The series was filmed in Williamstown and Mt Eliza.
Stephany commented on her troubled character Mackenzie and how she struggles with life as an only child from a one parent family. She said, “I like the attitude of Mackenzie despite her tumultuous upbringing.”
“The series is a cross between Puberty Blues and Skins with actors playing 16-17yr old characters, it’s raw – not sugar coated,” she added.
Stephany, a local girl who attended school in Mt Eliza, undertook theatre, film, TV and singing studies at the age of 6. She commenced her professional acting career at age 11. In 2010 she debuted in her first film role, I Love You Too playing opposite Rose Byrne. She completed her Bachelor of Arts last year and has now been cast as the lead character in Clique.
Lauren showed her potential at age two undertaking dance, singing and drama classes. She completed a Bachelor of Arts (Music Theatre) and started performing with Brainstorm Productions. She later performed in Give my Regards to Broady at Theatre Works and is excited to be involved in her first film project, Clique.
Lauren said, “My character Charley, who is Mackenzie’s best friend is honest and a real sweetheart, despite her downfalls and substance abuse.”
The series is currently being pitched on the international circuit with hope Australian major television networks will take it on board.
We wish Stephany and Lauren all the best for the future and their acting careers and the success of Clique.
Watch out for these two young talented actors when they grace their presence on the Red Carpet at the Logies!
Clique will be the most talked about TV drama series and is set to be released to the public this year.
