A new and exciting program, It's a Matter of Debate will soon hit the RPP FM airways.
The‘first of it’s kind’ debating program will be presented by RPP FM’s Sina Summers (who currently presents a program called Navigating Change every Friday at Noon), invites guest speakers to challenge local and global controversial issues debating in the Affirmative and Negative.
The 3rd & 4th programs in the series of It’s a Matter of Debate was pre-recorded in front of students in the Lecture Theatre at The Peninsula School, Mt Eliza this week.
Sina, who performed the Adjudicators roll, introduced two groups on the Year 9 Debating Team, each debating different topics. The first was Euthanasia is a Legal Right and debating on the Affirmative was Bethany, Yoann and Oscar and the Negative Team, giving a point-by-point rebuttal was Benjamin, Lucy and Kiani.
The second Year 9’s Debating Team, Chloe, James and Noah on the Affirmative and Alexandra, Alexandria and Max on the Negative, debated the topic Australians should be required to do Civil Defence training in their gap year.
After well researched and emotive views put forward by the panels, Sina gave the audience the opportunity to provide feedback on which team put the best and most convincing argument forward and then voted on a winner.
The Affirmative Teams won both debated topics.
Christen, who is in charge of the Debating Teams at the school was impressed by the professional performance of all teams and the student’s articulate delivery.
It’s a Matter of Debate program continues to travel around the Peninsula debating in front of live audiences debating issues that matter to you.
The 5th & 6th programs will be pre-recorded Friday 3 May 2013 at the Balnarring Business Community Group, who meets on the first Friday of every month at the Balnarring Tavern and Restaurant, hosted by Licensee Gail Loveridge. The topics up for debate are:
1) Should we have an Australian I.D. card?
