The Mornington Soccer Club hosted their annual Sponsors Day luncheon at their home ground at Dallas Brooks Park in Mornington last weekend. VIP guests were treated to a 3 course meal followed by a match between Mornington and Langwarrin in the 4th round of the 2013 season.

With a shaky start to the 2013 competition after finishing 4th on the ladder last year, Mornington’s Senior Coach, Adam Jamieson had his boys prepared and geared up to win the Seniors biggest local derby on the Peninsula against Langwarrin.

Scores were nil a piece at half time then Langwarrin kicked 2 goals in the second half of the match with a final score of 2-0. This was a disappointing result for the Seagulls after a pleasurable day.
Langwarrin remains undefeated in this year’s season.

Recently appointed President, Tom Schneider is excited about his new challenges and responsibilities, and working with four young committee members will provide new ‘blood’ and fresh ideas to move the Club forward. Tom, who is a local lawyer with experience and expertise, is working on a 5 – 10 year long term plan to make the club bigger, increase membership and sponsorship and expand its fan base.

The four committee members who include Tom Schneider, Nick Waite – Vice President, Michael Anderson – Treasure and Football Manager and Matt Cameron – Secretary are working hard behind the scenes to create a family and social atmosphere for players and members with a strong focus to involve the local community.

“The reason for the Sponsors Day is to invite the community along to the game we love, and we see it as an opportunity to bring the locals and our sponsors together to enjoy a great day.” Matt said.
The Club is putting a lot of energy in to increasing the kids Under 5’s up to Under 16’s teams and promoting the Girls Under 12 & 14’s teams. Tom explained that parents are happy for their daughters to play soccer as it encourages team building, camaraderie and provides a great social outlet, making them feel part of a group.

The Club also has Reserves to Seniors and compete at State League level II.
