It was the bounce of the red leather ball that kicked off the first 2013 live coverage of the RPP FM Bendigo Bank Match of the Day for the Nepean & Peninsula Football League season this weekend.

A warm windless day drew an enthusiastic crowd to watch the roaring Dromana Tigers down Hastings Blues with an easy win at Dromana’s home ground.

In the red commentary booth Andrew ‘Toe Punt’ Kelly and co-star Paul Satur both gave an accurate ‘blow by blow’ live coverage across the airways. It was Paul’s first time as Toe Punt’s right hand man and did well keeping up with Toe Punt’s fast and furious commentary. Actually Paul (or Brother Paul as he is known around the traps) is no stranger in front of a mic as he has his own RPP FM program called Shake It – You Won’t Break It, broadcast every Sunday at 4pm.

Toe Punt has been broadcasting live football action with the RPP FM team since 1989 with humble beginnings in an old caravan in Pearcedale. His professional and excitable ‘sportsman like’ annotations define The Voice of Football on the Peninsula and would rival any AFL commentary.

Every Saturday at 9am in the RPP FM studio, Toe Punt also presents – RPP FM’s definitive  Football Show – when the talk is  ‘everything football’ on the Peninsula.

Half-time at the ground when dogs, dads and kids are kicking the Sherrin around, the team are hard at work broadcasting a summary of play.

The great Tom Hafey was also sighted at the game.

On the Rye & District Community Bank Score Board the final score was Tigers 23-19- 157 to The Blues 13-12-90.

The RPP FM Best on Ground, sponsored by McMillan Real Estate Dromana was awarded to Tigers player Christian Ongarella. Coming up the ranks as a Somerville Junior, he played with the Frankston Dolphins for 8 years. This is his second game with the Tigers and has won Best on Ground back-to-back playing against the Sorrento Sharks last week.

So when you are next at the RPP FM Match of the Day, look out for the Little Red Commentary Booth and come and say hello to the boys. Download the RPP FM App or stream live from the RPP FM website.

And if you can’t make it to the ground, tune into 98.7FM and Frankston 98.3FM for all the live action of the RPP FM Match of the Day.
