I want to liken him to Black Caviar for his strength, but he’s not a horse, I want to liken him to Buddy for his passion, but he’s not an AFL football player but I will liken him to Jamaican runner Usain Bolt because of his determination and talent.
His name is Ben Closter, a local 13 year old from St Andrews Beach who has a dream to run the race of his life in the UK next month.
Ben has been chosen to travel to the UK and Europe in May 2013 on an Athletics mentoring program and to compete at track meets with The Boys Athletic Tour 2013.
He recently competed at the Victorian State Championships at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park in the Under 15's and won the 100m with a personal best of 11.82secs and the 200m with a personal best of 24.14secs.
Ben’s step mum Bec said, “I’m proud of Ben’s achievements and it was a great effort to get his personal best at the Victorian State Championships, he just keeps going from strength to strength.” When Dad Trevor was asked if Ben has the making of an Olympic champion he replied, “With a lot of hard work and commitment Ben has the opportunity to make Olympic standards.”
Ben is a member of East Melbourne Harriers Athletic Club and currently trains at Frankston Athletics Club with trainer Phil Williams.
